Chennai: Actor Rajinikanth who had entered politics in December 2017 forming his own Rajini Makkal Mandram party announced Sunday that he will not contest the upcoming general elections. He also said that his party will not support anyone. “I am not supporting anyone, so no party should use my name, photo or outfit’s logo,” the mega star said in a statement.
My party will not offer any support in the upcoming parliamentary election to any parties. So no one should use my photo or flags in the name of Rajini Makkal Mandram and Rajini Fan Club should not be used to support or campaign for any party,” the statement further added.
Rajinikanth’s announcement thus ends months of speculation about what his role as a politician would be since he announced his decision to form a party. He had earlier said that his politics would be ‘spiritual’ and based on ‘honesty’. Hence his decision not to contest the elections doesn’t appear surprising.
The actor-turned-politician however, has urged the people of Tamil Nadu to vote to scrutinise all the parties and then vote accordingly. He has urged people to vote for a party which will solve the water crisis of Tamil Nadu permanently.
