Men in khaki bring back lost cheer on 8-year-old boy’s face in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Men in khaki often court criticism for wrong reasons. But, Commissionerate Police is receiving words of appreciation from a family and their neighbours in IRC village area of Bhubaneswar for what they did.

The cops managed to recover a stolen bicycle and handed over to its owner, an eight-year-old kid who had been down in the dumps.

Partha Dash Pattnayak, son of Rajesh Dash Pattnayak of IRC village under Nayapalli police limits, was gifted a bicycle by his aunt on his birthday. Since then the bicycle has been his best companion. He is so fond of his bicycle that he takes great care to ensure the gift does not get even a scratch. This is why he seldom rides it.

One morning, he found his bicycle missing. The family members searched for it everywhere but failed to trace it out. And losing his bicycle, Partha went on crying for days together. His food intake had also reduced considerably.

Worse, he did not even seem ready to accept a new bicycle. With no option left, Rajesh lodged a report with Nayapalli police station.

Realising the sentiment of a boy attached to his aunt’s gift, the police took the case seriously. Going through the footages captured in CCTV camera installed at Rajesh’s residence, they zeroed in on Pradeep Mohanty. Pradeep used to be Rajesh’s domestic help.

The police recovered the stolen bicycle from Omkar slum under Nayapalli police limits and handed over it to Partha at his home, bringing back the lost smile on his face.
