Brahmanigaon/Raikia: Biting cold tightened its grip over the state with the mercury plummeting to 3° Celsius in the tourist destination of Daringibadi in Kandhamal district, making it the coldest place in Odisha, Sunday.
Many places like Kilabadi, Sasakuti, Bhramarbadi, Greenbadi, Linepada, Sirkabarga, Danekbadi, Pliheri, Siangbali, Silabadi, Silabadi, Tilori and Daringbadi experienced snowfall.
According to reports, Daringbadi recorded 5.5° C Wednesday while the temperature soared up to 10° C Thursday and 13° C Friday. However, the mercury dropped to 6° C Saturday.
Temperature in Katingia, Gadapur, Saramuli, Jhinkiriguda, Hatimunda and Tajungia has gone down below 3° Celsius as residents were huddling around bonfire to warm themselves. The intense cold wave coupled with snowfall has disrupted normal life, claimed block chairperson Ramakant Baliarsingh.
According to the met centre here, Bhubaneswar experienced the coldest day of the season recording 8.2° Celsius, down from 9.5° C measured Saturday. Cuttack also shivered at 8.2° C. Phulbani also plunged to 4.5° Celsius, it said.
Mercury dipped to 5.6° Celsius in Angul, while it was 6° Celsius in Sonepur, 6.4° Celsius in Keonjhar, 6.5° Celsius in Bhawanipatna, 7° Celsius in Titlagarh and Jharsuguda. Bolangir recorded 7.1 ° Celsius, Koraput 7.2° Celsius and Sambalpur 7.3° Celsius. The temperature was 8° Celsius in Sundargarh, 8.7° Celsius in Hirakud, 7.8° Celsius in Balasore, 9° Celsius in Baripada and 9.5° Celsius in Chandbali, it said.
