Bhubaneswar: Cold wave condition is disrupting normal life in Odisha with a sudden drop in mercury levels across the state.
The Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has issued a cold wave alert for several interior and coastal districts of Odisha for three days.
IMD in its afternoon bulletin said, “Dry weather most likely to prevail over the districts of Odisha.”
The met department also issued orange and yellow warnings for some districts.
Orange Warning (Be prepared): Severe cold wave conditions very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Angul, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sundargarh and Dhenkanal. The IMD predicted an increased likelihood of various illnesses like running/ stuffy nose or nosebleed, which usually set in or get aggravated due to prolonged exposure to cold. Livestock may be affected to due to prolong exposure to cold
Issuing precautionary measures for the orange alert warned districts the IMD advised people to stay indoors at night. The district collectors are instructed to make arrangements to keep livestock in shaded/indoor areas.
The IMD also advised to take safety measures while using electrical and gas heating devices.
Yellow Warning (Be updated): Cold wave conditions very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Kandhamal, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Deogarh, Kalahandi, Bolangir, Nawarangpur, Nuapada, Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Jajpur and Keonjhar.
SRC department directed all the collectors to make arrangements for using school buildings, community buildings and other available buildings during night as safe shelters for the homeless and needy people.
The SRC further asked the officials to undertake necessary public awareness campaigns on do’s and don’ts to protect the people and livestock from cold wave both in rural and urban areas.
