Chhatrapur: Ganjam district has stood first in the state by creating 2 crore mandays under the Centre’s flagship Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), a report said.
The district has been able to achieve the feat by October 8, 2021 by providing work to people under the rural job scheme. This was stated here by Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange Saturday.
Kulange said the Ganjam team has been able to achieve the milestone by creating 2 crore mandays. He tweeted his appreciation for the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), all BDOs and their teams, Saturday.
Sindhe Dattatreya Bhausaheb, project director, DRDA, said Ganjam district has crossed 2 crore mandays in implementing MGNREGS projects in 2021-22. He said Rs 386.32 crore has been spent till now under the scheme.
He said the district had achieved 98.36 lakh mandays in 2020-21 fiscal. Rs 210.71 crore had been spent under the project, PD, DRDA, said. According to reports, the district administration created 2.1 crore mandays and provided work to 328,533 families in the district.
Many residents who had migrated to other states had returned home due to the pandemic. The district administration has achieved this success by providing jobs to migrants.
Construction of model ponds, model parks, roads, drains, model cowsheds, Anganwadi centres and planting of coconut saplings were taken up under the scheme.
As many as 15,779 families in Aska block, 14,191 families in Beguniapada block, 15,496 families in Belguntha, 15,890 families in Bhanjanagar, 14,451 families in Buguda block, 11,717 in Chhatrapur block, 14,052 in Chikiti, 14,722 in Dharakote, 15,440 in Digapahandi, 12,102 in Ganjam, 12,239 in Hinjili, 16,824 in Jagannathprasad, 15,921 in Kabisuryanagar, 15,517 in Khallikote, 11,772 in Kukudakhandi, 18,783 in Patrapur, 17,162 in Polsara, 13,657 in Purusottampur, 14,509 in Rangeilunda, 17,114 in Sanakhemundi, 13,129 in Shergad and 18,066 in Sorada were provided work, he added.
