Bhubaneswar: Micro ATM service, through which cash will be dispensed to citizens in order to help them in the time of cash crunch following lack of network at the normal ATMs across the city, was inaugurated at the conference hall of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC).
The service, introduced by Axis Bank in collaboration with BMC, will dispense cash with five micro ATMs and more such machines will be added within a day or two. The service will be initially available at vantage points where there is internet availability. Places like the airport, hospitals and railway station will be covered.
Micro ATM is a GPRS-enabled device through which a customer can get cash after swiping his/her ATM card and the cash will be given by a bank staff once the swipe is approved by the system.
Later, once the bank gets more machines, more locations will be included as per instructions from the BMC.
A person with Debit/ATM card of any bank can use the micro ATM machine and get cash of Rs 100 to Rs 2,000 (maximum limit) with a single transaction. If needed more cash could be dispensed with more transactions.
Interestingly, the micro ATM machine can also dispense cash to a citizen who can produce his/her Aadhaar number. By authenticating the Aadhaar number to the biometric data, the micro ATM can help in getting cash for the customer from any bank to which the Aadhaar number is linked.
A senior Axis Bank official added that this initiative after the cyclonic storm Fani is to help the citizens within the limits of BMC under the civic body’s progress through partnership initiative. The micro ATM service will be extended to people till the usual ATM machines are restored.
