New Delhi: A MiG-29K trainer aircraft of the Indian Navy crashed Thursday evening while operating at the high seas. One pilot of the aircraft which crashed has been rescued while another is still missing, Indian Navy officials said Friday. However, ‘Hindustan Times’ reported that one pilot has been killed while another is missing.
The incident took place at around 5.00pm in the Arabian Sea, officials informed. The Navy has deployed surveillance aircraft and ships to locate the missing pilot. A high-level inquiry has been ordered to investigate the incident, officials added.
This is the third mishap of MiG-29K aircraft in the last one year.
In February this year, a MiG 29K crashed after being hit by birds over Goa. Both pilots had steered the jet away from habitation before ejecting. Their action drew praise from Union Minister of State for Defence Shripad Naik. In November last year, a MiG-29K trainer aircraft crashed outside a village in Goa. Both the pilots had then ejected safely.
