Minister Samir Das assures fiscal aid to kin of teachers who died on COVID duty

Bhubaneswar: The state school and mass education Minister Samir Ranjan Das announced Wednesday to provide fiscal assistance to kin of teachers who died while on COVID-19 duty.

Over 62,000 teachers in the state have been engaged in COVID-19 duties, of which 13 have succumbed to the deadly virus infection so far, the Minister informed. He reiterated that, all possible fiscal assistance will be provided as per government norms, as mentioned in a circular issued by state Finance Department August 4.

Das added that, as the parents of a school teacher named Simanchal Satpathy committed suicide after his demise, the state government will soon decide on action to be taken in Simanchal’s case.

Notably, school and mass education Department authorities had visited the bereaved family members of deceased teachers and had handed over letters in this connection to each family Tuesday.

The department letter highly appreciated sacrifices made by teachers who were considered as COVID-19 warriors and mentioned about the assistance as announced by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
