Daringbadi: In a shocking incident, a minor girl studying in Class X, was abducted while her disabled father was protesting. She is reported to have been gangraped in a forest nearby by the kidnappers.
The heinous incident was reported from a tribal village, two kilometres away from Partamaha panchayat under this block in Kandhamal district Thursday. However, the complaint was lodged with the police Saturday.
According to sources, the girl had gone to block office to obtain her caste, residence and income certificate Thursday. After the official work, the man and his daughter hired an auto-rickshaw to reach panchayat. They had to walk down to their village as there are no road facilities.
Being disabled, the man was following the girl as she was walking ahead. Meanwhile, two miscreants accosted the girl from the front and gagged her before whisking her away to a forest.
The physically challenged man tried his best to his daughter’s rescue but the ruffians pushed him aside and took the girl away in to a bush where they took turns to rape her.
Unable to do anything, the hapless man ran crying two kilometres to his village and informed the villagers about the incident following which the latter rushed towards the forest and started looking for the girl. Later, she was spotted in a critical condition lying unconscious in a bush.
Locals rescued her and took her to the village while some locals also managed to nab the two abductors and roughed them up before they fled the spot. The family had been silent in the fear of public stigma and image of the girl and the family.
After two days, the girl’s father mustered courage and with the help of the co-villagers lodged a complaint Saturday. The police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident. No one has been arrested in this connection so far.
