Minor critical as tree branch edge pierces through neck

Keonjhar: A fourteen-year-old boy was seriously injured when the sharp edge of a tree branch pierced through his neck Friday. The tree branch accidentally fell while he was plucking fruit from a black plum tree at Dangar Diha village near Ghatagaon in this district Thursday. He was Vishnu Mahakud.

After painstaking efforts, doctors removed the piece from his neck through a surgery.

Mahakud was first rushed to the Ghatagaon government hospital and later to Keonjhar district hospital in a critical condition. Doctors could not extricate the piece of wood from Mahakud’s neck, and he was referred to the SCB in Cuttack.

“The youth has been admitted to the cardiothoracic department. A team of doctors successfully removed the piece of wood from his body after a major surgery today,” said SCB emergency officer, BN Moharana.

The boy would be kept under observation in the ICU for a couple of days, he said.
