Balakati: In a shocking incident, a minor girl committed suicide by consuming poison after her parents refused to buy her a new dress on the occasion of Kumar Purnima at a village under Balipatna police limits on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, Sunday.
On the occasion of Kumar Purnima all the girls were wearing new clothes. Seeing them, the minor girl also demanded for a new dress. Instead of buying her new clothes, the family members scolded and beat her up.
Feeling sad at this, she consumed pesticide kept at home for farming purposes. Hearing her cry, family members rushed into the room and, after coming to know about her suicide attempt, admitted her at Balakati community health centre (CHC). After a check up, the doctors shifted her to Capital Hospital. She breathed her last while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
On being informed, Balipatna police reached the hospital, and sent the body for post-mortem after registering a case of unnatural death (Case No- 42/19).
Melancholy replaced the Kumar Purnima festivity mood as soon as the news reached the village.
