Salepur: Police detained a man Friday evening in connection with the alleged gangrape of a minor girl at Purusottampur village under Salepur block and Mahanga police limits in Cuttack.
According to a source, the victim was gangraped by five persons for over a month in the district. The shocking incident surfaced after the elder sister of the gangrape survivor lodged an FIR with Mahanga police seeking justice with the assistance of a local social activist.
Acting on the FIR lodged, Mahanga police have registered a case in this connection and detained the accused for interrogation.

“The 14-year-old girl’s father is no more. The accused used to go to the house of the minor girl frequently and gangraped her in the absence of her mother. They had threatened the minor not to reveal it to anyone,” the activist and president of International Human Rights Council Sasmita Das expressed.
The minor survivor narrated about the plight to her elder sister who was on a visit to Hyderabad along with her husband. One person has been detained and an investigation is underway, the activist added.
