Baliapal, June 15: Incidents of gross irregularities in the posting of Anganwadi workers in this block of Balasore district have come to the fore in recent times.
A job aspirant recently filed a petition in Orissa High Court challenging the appointment of an Anganwadi worker. The court heard both the parties and ordered Balasore sub-collector to quash the appointment. However, the latter terminated services of 12 more such Anganwadi workers who were appointed illegally. The incident has created quite a buzz in the area.
According to sources, several women had applied for posts of Anganwadi workers in Kashipur centre of Betagadia panchayat in 2010. However, the then child development project officer (CDPO) and Balasore sub-collector had given appointment to one Sabita Rout allegedly flouting the norms of recruitment. Sarojini Samantray, who was also an aspirant, moved High Court citing the appointment illegal.
The court, while hearing the case, found the recruitment guidelines being violated and asked the present sub-collector to take action.
The sub-collector terminated Rout and 12 others after thoroughly analyzing the procedure of appointment May 21. Others who were shown the door were – Sandhyarani Jena of Raipur, Anjali Dey of Kumbhari, Umamani Mohanty of Narayanpur Panta, Sumati Parida of Deula-4, Jhillirani Patra of Simulia-2, Jayanti Giri of Anladiha-5, Shantilata Panda Harnababi Patna, Narayani Nayak of Dharmadwar, Kanaklata Behera of Katisahi-2, Champamani Das of Palapada, Jyotsnarani Pradhan of Ikadpal and Gitarani Das Kalasimuli-5. The action was taken according to the law, the sub-collector said.
Baliapal block development officer Somnath Pradhan who is in charge of CDPO said, advertisement was published June 12 for the appointment of new workers in the place of those who were dismissed.
