Nirakarpur: A notorious history-sheeter was injured in an counter with police in Nirakarpur area in Khurda district Thursday evening. The injured person, identified as Feroz Khan, was shifted to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar.
Police said Feroz is a dreaded criminal of Nirakarpur area and has more than 40 cases of dacoity, loot, extortion and attempt to murder pending against him in various police stations in Nirakarpur, Khurda and Banapur.
Although the police have been looking for Feroz for more than a year, he remained elusive.
A special team of police personnel from Balugaon and Khurda stations led by SDPOs of the two stations was formed to nab the acccused.
Acting on a tip-off about the whereabouts of Feroz in Nirakarpur, the team raided the area Thursday evening. Noticing the police from a distance, Feroz is stated to have hurled a country bomb at them. However, he sustained bullet injuries on his left knee and feet after the police opened fire at him.
Police later arrested Feroz and admitted him to the Khurda District Headquarters Hospital from where he was shifted to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar as his condition deteriorated.
After his discharge from the hospital, police would interrogate him about his criminal network. Later, he would be forwarded to court.
