Baripada: Two students were critically injured after they were attacked by unidentified miscreants on the premises of a residential school in Saraskana block of Mayurbhanj district in the wee hours of Sunday. The attack has created flutter across the district.
The injured – Sandeep Hansda and Manoj Mohanta – have been admitted to Saraskana health centre and were later shifted to PRM Medical College and Hospital.
Based on a complaint by headmaster of Saraswati Sishu Mandira, Harishchandra Mohant, Jharpokharia police have registered a case and started an investigation into the attack. Police have also detained one person and are currently interrogating him in connection with the crime. However, the police refused to reveal his name as it would hinder their probe.
According to reports, Sandeep and Manoj had gone to the toilet on the school premises at around 4 am when a person, who was reportedly hiding there, attacked Sandeep with a sharp weapon. Hearing Sandeep’s screams for help, Manoj, who was in an adjacent toilet, rushed out to help his friend.
As Manoj arrived on the scene, the miscreant attacked him too. Unfortunately, neither of the boys could see the face of the miscreant as it was dark outside, they said.
The two boys somehow managed to escape from place and raised an alarm. Following preliminary investigation, police have learnt that the accused had threatened the boys earlier.
However, the two students claimed that they did not have any enmity with anyone in the locality.
While the motive behind the attack is yet to be ascertained, the SDPO said further investigation is being conducted and the mystery would be unveiled soon.
