Miscreants hurl bombs, attack villagers

Dhenkanal: Tension ran high at Khamar village near Sadar area in this district after unidentified miscreants hurled bombs and attacked two villagers with sharp weapons Monday morning. The injured were Shankarsan Sahoo and Kalindi Barik, and they have been hospitalised.

Sources said the villagers had blocked construction of a canal a few days back alleging poor quality work. It is suspected that the attack was a fall-out of this protest.

“Around 6am , Shankarsan Sahoo of Khamar village was on his way to a cashewnut farm and Kalindi Barik was present at the village square. Five to six miscreants came on three bikes and attacked the two with sharp weapons. Injured Sahoo and Barik were rushed to a government hospital in an ambulance,” said IIC of Sadar, Malaya Kishore Nayak.

“On May 18, Shankarsan’s son Srikant had attacked two persons including the JE engaged in the construction work of the Rengali Left Bank Canal and one Tutu of Baji Chhak in Dhenkanal town. It is alleged that the attackers included some youths of Baji Chhak and its nearby areas,” Nayak said.

“Two teams of Sadar and Town police stations conducted raids at various places. The accused will be nabbed by this evening,” the IIC said.
