Dhenkanal: Throwing an open challenge to the police, miscreants shot one person dead Friday and injured another at Nagada village in Dhenkanal district Friday. The deceased has been identified as Govind Behera of Kunida village in Bhuban town of this district.
According to a source, Govind and two others were on their way to Nagada to buy buffalo. As they came close to Nagada, four miscreants on two bikes waylaid them and tried to snatch the bag containing cash, away from Govind.
When the three resisted the loot attempt, the miscreants opened fire killing Govind on the spot. They then took the bag containing Rs 30,000 in cash and fled the scene. The other injured person has been rushed to a hospital.
Notably, looting of ATMs, robbery and snatching cases are on the rise in the Dhenkanal.
In the month of December two incidents of looting were reported. In the first case Rs 1,00,000 was forcibly taken from a person December 21. Prior to this incident, miscreants looted Rs 25 lakh from an SBI ATM counter at Nimabahali Chowk, December 15.
