Miscreants slit throat of teen, villagers suspect handiwork of child-lifters

Nabarangpur: Tension ran high in Panar village under Dabugam police limits in Nabrangpur district late Thursday night after unidentified miscreants injured an 18-year-old teen by slitting his throat.

Panicked gripped the residents who suspected it to be a handiwork of child-lifters on prowl in and around the area.

The injured has been identified as Bikash Behera, son of Satyanarayan Behera of the same village.

The attack took place at around 11 PM in the night while Bikash had gone out of his home to attend nature’s call. A group of miscreants pounced on him and slit his throat with a sharp object.

The miscreants could have taken him to a forest and extracted his eyes and kidneys. However, locals rushed to the spot, hearing the boy’s scream for help following which the miscreants faded away into the darkness.

The injured was immediately rushed to Umerkote community health centre (CHC) in critical condition by family members and was later shifted to Nabarangpur district headquarters hospital (DHH) for further treatment.

Dabugam police reached the spot and started investigation into the incident Friday.

On the other hand, locals are in a state of panic following the incident and have started guarding the village by forming a number of groups as they fear the hand of either child-lifters or kidney racketeers behind the incident.
