Miscreants vandalise Nayagarh Town rly station

Nayagarh: Miscreants went on a rampage and tried to set afire the office of the Nayagarh Town railway station, ransacked its premises and assaulted four officials, including the station master, after they were asked not to celebrate a birthday party and consume alcohol in the station premises, Sunday night.

Four officials, including the station master Sanjay Kumar Pradhan, sustained multiple injuries after they were allegedly beaten up by the miscreants late Sunday night. Nayagarh SP Siddharth Kataria and Town police IIC Jaydeep Mohanty reached the spot and initiated a probe. The prime accused was identified as a police constable Chittaranjan Jena, 34, alias Felu, posted at the VHF Control Room of Nayagarh Reserve Police.  The SP, after the probe, suspended Jena from the post. A team of railway officials also conducted a probe.

Later, 10 persons were arrested in this connection and produced in the court. The accused persons were identified as the constable Chittarnjan Jena, 34, Bikash Lenka, 19, Siddharth Das, 22, Rajkumar Pradhan, 23, alias Suman, Basant Mohapatra, 25, alias Pinu, Deepak Mohapatra, 19, Dillip Jena, 23, Biswabhusan Panigrahi, 25, Kanha Pradhan, 19, and Alok Mohapatra, 25. Another accused is absconding

A group of around 20 to 25 miscreants assaulted Pradhan and his four officials after the former was asked not to engage in birthday celebration and consume liquor on the railway station premises, railway official said. The incident occurred after a railway official noticed the group consuming liquor and celebrating birthday of someone in the railway station premises by playing DJ music at high decibel sound.

The official tried to dissuade them and asked them to vacate the place but they refused to listen and assaulted the station master and other officials with iron rods and pipes. Later, they ransacked the computer systems in the station panel rooms and threw away the flower pots.

They also snatched the gold necklace of the station master and cash worth Rs 2,000 from him. While leaving they set fire to the documents in the control room with petrol and fled the scene.
