Missing man’s body found in nullah

Digapahandi: Body of a man was recovered from Muhana nullah near Nistipur village that comes under Sanakhemundi block of Ganjam district in the wee hours of Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Basanta Das of Nistipur village who used to work as a daily laborer.

According to locals, Basanta had gone missing after leaving home Thursday morning. On the eve of Raksha Bandhan his sister had been waiting the whole day, but he had not reached home. The family members searched for him but failed to trace him.

Some of the local villagers found his body at Munhana nullah at about 6:00am while they had been there to relieve themselves. They immediately informed his family members about the incident.

On being informed, Patapur police reached the spot and recovered the body. Doubts are being raised whether his death was accidental or a case of preplanned murder.

“We have sent the body for postmortem and have started an investigation into the incident. We will be able to know the reason behind his death once we receive the report,” inspector-in charge (IIC) Ramesh Kumar Pradhan said.
