Missing woman found dead in Kandhamal

Brahmanigaon/Daringbadi: Acting on a tip-off, Brahmanigaon police Monday recovered the body of a woman, hanging from a tree near Jirianagar village under Kumbharigaon panchayat of Bamunigaon police limits in Kandhamal district.

The incident sparked tension as the girl was missing since Friday. The deceased has been identified as Sukhi Gamang, 35.  The girl has wound marks on her face and it is suspected that she was beaten up with a blunt objects before being killed. The murderer later hanged her body from a tree in a nearby forest.

According to sources, a local youth was in an alleged love relationship with Sukhi. He had even tried to propose marriage with her, but was rejected by her family members.

In an act of revenge, he might have killed the woman, suspected the villagers and thrashed him after tying him to a pole.

On receipt of information, police reached the village and rescued the youth. A case was registered on the basis of a complaint by the woman’s relatives.

As per the complaint, the youth was in a relationship with Sukhi. However, her family members were opposed to the affair and had him fined through the village committee.

Meanwhile, his marriage was also fixed elsewhere and was supposed to be held in March. However, the couple had once again begun meeting each other. Later, under mysterious circumstances, Sukhi went missing since Friday morning.

Baliguda SDPO Kusalkar Nitin Dagdu said, “The crime was committed in a forest. However, the local IIC reached the place and started an investigation.”
