Daringbadi: The body of Chanda Majhi of Simanbadi village, who had gone missing since January 2 was recovered from Lovers’ Point under Kirikuti panchayat in Kandhamal district Wednesday, the Daringbadi police said. The youth’s body has been sent for post-mortem, Thursday.
Chanda’s family had lodged a missing report complaint with Daringbadi police after he disappeared. A team led by IIC Alekh Garadia had visited the village and launched a search but failed to trace him.
While Chanda’s family members were in agony for the past few days, a body was seen floating Wednesday in the picturesque pool at Lovers’ Point here. Locals informed Chanda’s family members who identified the deceased. Later, police reached the spot and with the help of fire personnel fished out the body.
Chanda worked as a helper at an eatery and on the fateful day, he with his employer’s family went to Lovers’ Point for picnic. He had gone missing half-way through the feast and did not return thereafter. Assuming he might have gone home, the eatery owner and others returned once the picnic was over. It was only later that they came to know that Chanda had never returned home.
After a frantic search, failed to trace Chanda’s whereabouts, family members lodged a complaint at the police station. Police sources informed Thursday that the exact cause of Chanda’s death will only come to light once the post-mortem is done. Garadia said the police were investigating the matter with all seriousness.
