Rayagada, Nov 30: Resentment brewed among former employees of Mission Shakti in the district as they have not been paid their arrears even as money has been deposited in the bank account of the district social welfare officer five months ago.
It may be mentioned here that microfinance and livelihood consultants (MLCs) and multi-purpose workers (MPWs) were appointed under the Mission Shakti Yojana in November 2008 and they worked till 2011. MLCs and MPWs were to get Rs 6,000 and Rs 4,000 per month each respectively. As they did not get their salaries regularly, they stopped working, for which the scheme stopped functioning in the district.
After a series of agitations, the employees of the district were disbursed Rs 16 lakh by June 30, 2011.
In order to get the rest Rs 25.34 lakh, they lodged a complaint with the concerned officer in the district, but to no avail. Later, they moved the High Court.
The High Court later directed the women and child development department to disburse the money towards arrears of Mission Shakti employees immediately.
Following the HC direction, a total of Rs 1.5 crore for 12 districts including Rayagada was deposited in the bank account of the social welfare department July 3 this year.
While the arrears of the employees have been paid in other districts, the concerned authorities of Rayagada district are unaware of the money deposited, the MLCs alleged.
When contacted, district social welfare officer BSBN Bag said he was unaware of the money deposited.
He added that he would look after the matter after a few days as he was on leave currently.
