Mission Shakti hailed by all political parties, mixed reactions for Modi

Immediately after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement about India successfully deploying the ASAT (anti-satellite) missile, reactions flew thick and fast from various political parties. While the BJP lauded Modi and the scientists of Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO), Congress president termed Modi’s declaration as ‘World Theatre Day’. Here’s what the various political parties and their leaders had to say.

Amit Shah (BJP president): It is a proud moment for all Indians. I congratulate all the scientists involved with #Mission Shakti and thank Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi for ensuring that India continues to safeguard the interest of its people and secures them on all fronts.

Rahul Gandhi (Congress president):  Well done DRDO, extremely proud of your work. I would also like to wish the PM a very happy ‘World Theatre Day’.

Akhilesh Yadav (SP): Today @narendra modi got himself an hour of free TV & divert(ed) nation’s attention away from issues on ground #Unemployment  #Rural Crisis & #Women’s Security by pointing at the sky. Congratulations @DRDO & @ISRO this success belongs to you. Thank you for making India safer.

Devendra Fadnavis (Maharashtra CM): Congratulations India! We are now a space power too! And thank you Hon PM Narendra Modi ji for making India proud again by accomplishing # Mission Shakti by testing anti-satellite (ASAT) missile & shooting down live satellite in just three minutes. India also congratulates all hard working scientists and entire team for this great achievement and making entire nation proud.

Mayawati (BSP supremo): Congratulations to Indian defence scientists for the successful experiment of shooting down a satellite in the space. But the Prime Minister playing politics under its garb for electoral gains is most condemnable. The honourable election commission should definitely take cognizance of this.

Trinamool Congress: Narendra Modi should stop taking credit for the achievement or job done by others. Shooting down a satellite is the credit of our scientists. The Modi government in the last five years has failed to provide any relief to the people of the country. So ahead of the elections, the BJP and Modi should stop these tricks to fool the masses. It won’t have any impact on the poll prospects of the BJP in the upcoming elections.

Congress: We congratulate @isro & the Govt on the latest achievement for India. The Indian Space Programme established in 1961 by Pt Jawaharlal Nehru & the Indian Space Research Organisation set up under Smt Indira Gandhi has always made India proud with its ground breaking achievements.
