MLA Ananta Narayan Jena’s PSO falls victim to COVID-19

Bhubaneswar: Asish Mahakul (45) the personal security officer (PSO) of Bhubaneswar-Central MLA and former mayor of this city Ananta Narayan Jena, has died of COVID-19. The security personnel breathed his last at a private hospital here Saturday night.

According to sources, the swab samples of Jena, his PSO and driver were sent for COVID-19 tests August 17. The result of Mahakul turned out to be positive and he was advised to be in home quarantine. Later, Mahakul was admitted to a private hospital August 21, as he developed high fever with severe cough and cold.

Mahakul was the shifted to ICU August 25 and was placed on a ventilator, as his condition further deteriorated. However, all efforts to save him failed.

Mahakul served VIIth Battalion for 20 long years till 1995, after which he joined the Reserve Police. He is survived by his wife and two sons. His last rites were performed at Satyanagar Cemetery.  Bhubaneswar Police paid their last respects to mortal remains of the brave officer.
