Mobile science unit launched

Bhubaneswar: The Regional Science Centre here has selected Bolangir district to start a brand new mobile science unit which would contain 20 interactive van mounted exhibits on measurement. The van will cover 11 schools of various blocks from September 16 till the second week of December.

The van carries a modern telescope, portable planetarium and table top science demonstration kit box with nine experiments.

These facilities in the van were inaugurated by Gangadhar Sahoo director, SCERT, Odisha. Students of various local schools, and B.Ed students and faculties of Regional Institute of Education, Bhubaneswar also attended the programme.

Later, the new vans were sent for Bolangir to conduct the programme.

Notably, NITI Aayog, Govt of India, has taken up Koraput, Malkangiri, Raygada, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Dhenkanal and Bolangir as inspirational districts of Odisha. In this regard Regional Science Centre, Bhubaneswar— a constituent unit of National Council of Science museums functioning under the aegis of Ministry of Culture, Govt of India— is to focus on various science-related activities in these districts.

And so, the Regional Science Centre has selected Bolangir district to start with a brand new mobile science unit.
