Bhubaneswar: The GRP police Sunday arrested a man on charges of stealing two mobile phones at Bhubaneswar Railway Station here Sunday. The accused Alliuddin Khan of Barahal under Balipatna police limits was caught after a chase.
According to sources, the complainant Sangram Mallick of Jajpur, who came from Bangalore in Prasanti Express, arrived at the station late Saturday night. He was waiting at Platform No.2 for his relatives to pick him up. Meanwhile, Khan noticed that Mallick was dozing off and taking advantage of the situation, the former snatched the bag from Mallick which woke him up. Though Mallick wrestled with Khan for a while, resisting the latter’s attempt to flee with the bag, Khan made an escape with the bag.
Hearing Mallick’s cries, the GRP police rushed the spot and chased Khan before nabbing him a few meters away from the station.
Police registered a case (3/19) under Section 380 of the IPC against Khan who during interrogation confessed to his crime. Khan was produced before the Bhubaneswar SDJM court Sunday and sent to 14-day judicial custody.
