Mobile theft racket busted, 10 held

M Rampur (Kalahandi): Acting on a tip-off, M Rampur police Saturday busted a mobile phone stealing gang and arrested at least 10 persons here in Kalahandi district.

The accused persons have been identified as Niudibya Parua, Bikas Gouda, Tulasi Rout, Debasis Bagarti, Bhakta Charana Hati, Suchit Singh, Rabi Praharaj, ShrutiRanjann Das, Bhaja Putel, and Ajit Bhoi. Following the arrest, cops seized around 14 mobiles and a power bank from them.

Meanwhile, the kingpin of the racket identified as Subash Meher is reportedly absconding. M Rampur IIC revealed the matter before media persons in his office.

The gang has been involved in several loots in the area. They mostly target mobile shops and loot branded phones. Later, the cell phones are sold in other states at less prices. The miscreants would often cut the prices by Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000.

According to sources, the gang had barged into Amiya Kumar Sathpathy’s mobile shop and looted mobile phones worth lakhs of rupees. Amiya opened his shop the next morning only to find the mobile shop empty.

Acting on a complaint, police initiated a manhunt to nab the accused and were tracking their movement. Acting on their movement in M Rampur, a special team led by the IIC himself made the arrest.

A case has been registered against the accused and they have been forwarded to the court, police said.
