Bhandaripokhari: There is no let up in cases of cyber crimes with gullible urban and rural residents. Such cases are increasingly reported from various parts of the state day by day. The latest victim is Saudamini Sahoo, a resident of Nuapokhari village of Rahania Panchayat under Bhandaripokhari block in Bhadrak district.
She lodged a complaint Thursday with Bhandaripokhari police station alleging that money from her account had been withdrawn by miscreants who tricked her to divulge bank account secrets promising her money from PM Modi.
According to her complaint, Saudamini received calls from 7667834916/7667834917 numbers March 5. The caller promised her transfer of Modi money. She was asked to share her 16 digit account number for verification and believing the caller, she shared her account details. The caller cut the connection after promising her that the money would be credited to her account within two days.
March 7, Saudamini went to a nearby ATM to check on the Modi money only to find a debit of Rs 10,000 instead.
Surprised and worried Sauadamini verified the mini statement of her account and found that Rs 4999 in first phase, Rs 4000 in second phase, Rs 500 in third and Rs 300 in fourth phase had been withdrawn March 5.
Thereafter, she attempted several times to contact the callers on the same number but failed.
