Mohan Bhagwat likely to meet Bengal intellectuals

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat

Kolkata: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat, who is on a two-day tour to the city, is scheduled to meet five-six eminent personalities and intellectuals here Saturday, a Bengal RSS leader said Saturday.

The leader, however, did not wish to reveal the names. Bhagwat reached the city Saturday afternoon and moved to the residence of RSS West Bengal Secretary Jishnu Basu in Salt Lake after paying a brief visit to the organisation’s state headquarters Keshab Bhaban.

“He is scheduled to meet five or six imminent personalities from the city. These names have been shortlisted by the the state leadership of RSS,” senior RSS south Bengal leader Biplab Roy told IANS.

“However, we have decided not to reveal the names of these personalities as we have seen that these people came under political pressure by certain parties in the last few years in the aftermath of the meeting. We do not want to put them at a tight spot,” he said.

He said the RSS chief has not set any target regarding the expansion of the organisation but has given them certain suggestions regarding their way forward.

“As of now, our target is to reach out to all the Gram Panchayats in Bengal within the next two years. There are around 2,200 RSS shakhas in Bengal. We are planning to touch up on all the Gram Panchayats in the state,” he added.
