Ahead of Mother’s Day May 10, kids reveal their plans for the day. They are buying the most exquisite gifts in town and are hatching some of the most fertile plans to see their mothers beaming with great delight all through the day
Remember the iconic dialogue from the movie Deewaar where Amitabh Bachchan said to Shashi Kapoor “Mere paas gaadi hai, bangla hai, bank balance hai, property hai, tumhare paas kya hai?” to which Shashi Kapoor replied “Mere paas Maa hai.” Be it reel life or real life, nobody can take the place of mother; she is the most beautiful creation of God. Mother’s Day is almost here, and it’s time to start planning how to celebrate. You must be looking for a unique gift for her or hoping to do something special. Here are a few children who share their Mother’s Day plans with us. We are all ears…
The countdown has begun. Mother’s Day is just a day away and kids have left no stone unturned to see a smile on their mother’s face on the occasion. Kids are itching to make something very special for their moms while mothers are also agog to celebrate the day with their kids.
Satanshi Jena (5), aka Sonu of Barbil, says, “Last year I went out to local market with my father to get a payal for my sweet mother on Mother’s Day.” Sonu who cannot spend an hour in her mother’s absence, has decided to get a salwar suit for her mother this year on the occasion. “I have asked papa to get a salwar suit for mummy. We will give her a surprise Sunday. Don’t leak our plan to mummy please,” Sonu pleaded smilingly.
Sonu’s mother Sasmita Jena said whatever may be the occasion, Satanshi (Sonu’s good name) always presents her something. She even presents her gifts on Valentine’s Day. “She usually plucks flowers and grass from the garden and makes a flower bouquet. Besides, she presents greeting cards by preparing them on her own. Gifts, however, do not matter for me. I am lucky to have a daughter like Sonu. I have decided take her out for dinner Sunday evening,” she says.
Anwesh Anshutam Bhanja, a five-year old from Aska, is all set to decorate his mama’s room like Taj Mahal on Mother’s Day.
When asked about his plans, Anwesh said “My mama loves me like anything. I will present her a rose soon after she gets up in the morning. When my mother will remain busy with household chores, I will decorate her room with roses. I do not have much money, otherwise I would have bought a gold ring for her.
Anwesh’s mummy Smruti Rekha Dasbhanja was taken aback after she heard her son’s plan. “I never expected such a nice gift from my son. Despite being a toddler, Chuman has come up with such a nice plan. That’s enough for me. This will be my biggest gift,” Smruti said with tears rolling down her cheeks.
Soumya Mishra, mother of a three-year-old baby boy, said, “Being a mother is a great feeling in itself, and I am fortunate enough to be a proud mother of my little boy. My son is too small to wish me on Mother’s Day. His presence has completed my life. Sometimes, non-material gifts seem more valuable than material gifts. If I am asked what my baby boy will present me on the occasion, the baby’s innocent look, his gentle touch and sweet words are precious gifts for me and will always remain so,” Sai’s mama who hails from Puri quipped.
“Pragyan-Prisha is celebrating Mother’s Day for the past three years. As she is growing old her passion for celebration is growing too. Last to last year she had presented me a top and last year she had brought a cake for me. She plans for the day and executes the plans with the help of her father, Laxmi Narayan Nanda. Every year we cut a cake and she insists me to cut it. But the cake is chocolate as per her choice. The gift is always a surprise for me. So far I don’t have any idea about what she is planning to give me this year,” says her mother.
Prisha says, “Mother’s Day is very special to me. I love my mother so much and want to celebrate it with much excitement. I go to the market along with my father to fetch the party gifts. I will not reveal what I have planned this time because I know you will convey it to my mom.”
Rosalin Mishra, Taan’s mother, says, “We are celebrating Mother’s Day for the last five years. Taan is very excited. Every year he brings gifts for me. But the most memorable one for me was a pen. I have great weakness for pen and wristwatch. Last year he had presented me a pen and that was the most memorable one for me. I have still kept it with me. I don’t write with it. He himself buys the gifts from the shop close to our house.”
Taan says, “My mother is the most precious gift of God to me. Hence I don’t want to miss a chance to woo her. Thankfully, Mother’s Day is the occasion when I can do something for her. I am the only sibling in my family and I am everything for her. When I was just six years old I had fallen ill and she took care of me day and night.”
Sagarika Satapathy, Hardhik’s mother, says, “Perhaps this is the first Mother’s Day when I am expecting a gift from my loving son. He is just three years old. But in his crèche they are planning some surprise gifts for every mom. I was asking my son yesterday about what he is going to give me. He could not answer me as he didn’t know what I want, but just intimated that May 10 there would be a celebration in his crèche and ‘miss’ had said that she would hand over something for him to give me.”
Hardhik is hardly aware about Mother’s Day. When asked whether he loved his mom, he answered, “I love my mom very much”. When we asked about the celebration he said, “I don’t know.”
Deepsikha Mishra, Ashes’s mother says, “We live in Birgunj in Nepal and still have not recovered from the quake fury. Thus, I don’t know how our family will celebrate this year’s Mother’s Day. But as we all have survived while thousands of other people have died definitely we are fortunate enough. And so we will celebrate the day.”
Ashes says, “So far I have not planned for it. It is possible that we may skip it this year though we are celebrating Mother’s day for the last five years. But I am very interested. Let’s see.”
Sansit Mohanty says he has plans to spend the special day in a special way. “First I will wish my mother a very happy Mother’s Day in the morning and give her a beautiful present from my pocket money. The gift I can’t reveal now but it will surely be the world’s best for the world best mom. In the evening, I have planned to take her to some park.”
When we asked Tanushree Mohanty (Sansit’s mother) regarding her feelings on her son’s surprise her reply was: “Every year my son gives me something special on Mother’s Day. When he was four years old, he asked his father what is Mother’s Day and his father replied that it was the day when we gave gifts to our mother to make her feel special and he had gifted me a set of bangles that was a memorable gift.”
Ashima Das says, “There is no special planning for Mother’s Day. It could be simple — like setting aside all other plans and treating my dearest mother as a queen on that day.”
Biswanatha Das, Ashima’s mother, says, “As the Board exams results are out and my daughter has secured good marks I am very happy. Every year she and her elder sister plan something special for Mother’s Day; the feeling is always great.”
Varsha Priyadarshini says Mother’s Day is all about celebrating the most important lady in our lives.
“Every year I and my brother plan something different and special. In the morning we prepare tea for our mother and give her a special gift with the help of dad and while flowers are lovely, it’s hard to find a gift worthy of the lady who made us who we are today. We give her a greeting card which contains sweet memories. Reminiscence is good for Mother’s Day because it reinforces family feelings.”
Anima Das, Barsha’s mother, says, “I love the first gift which my children had given me — it was a teddy bear and a photo frame. They were in Class II and III back then. They really make the day special in their own way.”
