Monkey attacks villagers, 15 injured in 4 days

Hinjilicut: Panic gripped Kantheikoli village under Kanchuru panchayat in Ganjam district after 15 persons were injured by a monkey since last four days.

About seven persons have been injured in the simian attack Thursday as the animal went berserk.

The injured villagers are Bhobini Das (70), Bhagya Das (55), Chira Das (45), Sashi Mohanty (60), Budhi Das (63), Tankadhara Sahoo (64), Narayan Mohanty (40), Sandhyarani Sahoo (18) and Hadiani Das (55).

The injured were given first aid at Kanchuru Primary Health Center (PHC) and later shifted to Hinjilicut Community Health Center (CHC).

The villagers, particularly children, have stopped venturing out of their houses alone.

The villagers and the forest department staff have failed in their attempt to catch the monkey, triggering panic among the villagers.

When contacted, Forester in-charge of Hinjlicut beat house Kamal Babu said, their staff was not able to capture the simian despite several attempts since last two days.

Locals urged the department should use tranquiliser to catch the monkey.
