Bhubaneswar : The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has decided to provide stoppages of various trains in several smaller railway stations under their jurisdiction on an experimental basis to ensure that passengers from these areas are benefitted.
According to the officials of the railway department, the ECoR has decided to cater to the needs of many smaller railway stations in their jurisdiction which are in demand from the public. A number of trains have been picked by the department which would now need to make halt at the selected stations.
An official from the railway department said, “Keeping in view the demands of passengers and to ensure facilities to commuters, we have decided to pick a set of trains which would now cater to the demands of such stations and will make stoppages here.”
He also added, “This will be an experimental basis project for a period of six months and will be implemented with immediate effect. Most of the stations in Odisha like Kalupadaghat, Kenduapada, Naraj Marthapur, Bamur, Dungripali, Soro and Belpahar and Bobbili (Andhra Pradesh) under ECoR will get more stoppages. Some trains originating and passing through ECoR will also get additional stoppages beyond its jurisdiction.”
The department has also decided to increase the frequency of Rourkela-Gunupur-Rourkela Rajyarani Express and Villupuram-Purulia-Villupuram Express while it has decided to run a tri-weekly special train between Sambalpur and Shalimar via Angul and Bhadrak.
The tri-weekly special train between Sambalpur and Shalimar is expected to the ease traffic in the region. Shalimar-Sambalpur-Shalimar Special will run from Shalimar between March 18 and June 28, 2019 every Monday, Wednesday and Friday and from Sambalpur between March 19 and June 29, 2019 every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
