Scores of baby cobras were rescued recently at several places in Puri and, Jagatsinghpur districts. Around 20 cobra hatchlings were also rescued from the house of a villager at Narilo near Patkura in Kendrapara district some days ago.

Some hatchlings were seen slithering around the house of Ranjan Swain. He alerted the snake helpline officials who reached the spot and rescued the cobras while more reptiles were feared hiding in his house.

Some days ago, more than 10 baby cobras were found inside the house of Kalpataru Nayak at Begunia village under Tirtol block in Jagatsinghpur district. Locals alerted the snake helpline officials who rescued the hatchlings and released them in a forest near the village. Also, three snakes were reportedly done to death by locals.

While eight baby cobras were rescued from the house of Santosh Kumar Pani at Nalanga village in Bhadrak district, 12 were rescued from the same village, making it to a total of 20 snakes.

Another 20 hatchlings were rescued from the house of Anadi Sahu in Suhagpur village near Pipili in Puri district. Sahu spotted them as he opened his storeroom. He then alerted the snake helpline. Helpline specialist Sushant Kumar Behera went there and rescued the cobras.

The snakes were later released in the forest. Behera also found snake eggshells in the house.

The incidents were reported soon after the rescue of around 150 cobras and their hatchlings at two places in Dhamanagar and Kantabani areas of Bhadrak district this week.
