More young patients than old: CMC area reflects reversed COVID-19 infection trend

Cuttack: As against a common belief that deadly coronavirus infects elderly persons as well as children the most, Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) area has reflected a reversed phenomenon.

According to reports, youngsters have been infected in large numbers here. It is known that, there are 822 active cases under this civic area. Out of this, 124 infected persons are below 20 years; 375 persons are in the age group of 21 to 40 years; 261 persons are in the age group of 41 to 60 years and only 62 persons are above 60 years of age, CMC Commissioner Ananya Das informed Sunday.

Elaborating on cases of infection in the municipal area during last week from August 8 to 14, 605 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected, of which 165 cases were reported from Containment Zones, 174 cases from home isolations, 127 cases from quarantine facilities and 139 cases from local contacts, Das asserted.

On the other hand, emphasis is being given to enhance swab tests in this municipal area. Number of patients is on the rise at COVID-19 hospitals in Cuttack city area, the Commissioner added.
