Bhubaneswar: The city is facing a money crunch in the wake of the destruction caused by cyclone Fani as the ATMs in the city are either not working due to lack of electricity or have been damaged by the cyclone.
Since the day Cyclone Fani struck the capital city May 3, the ATMs in the city are left defunct. Some of the ATMs which started working saw long queues. Most people were left distraught as they were unable to withdraw cash.
Orissa POST talked to some of the people and asked them about their situation. Roshan Patnaik a city based lawyer said, “The ATM problem is adding to the electricity and water woes of the city people.”
Ajay Mohanty a college student said, “If we compare demonetization period with this than its far worse as the problem of defunct ATMs is compounded by the lack of water and electricity. In many areas people are going to different water bodies for their daily uses. Most ATMs in the city are permanently damaged due to the cyclone.
Alok Kumar Lal said, “For the last two days I am visiting every ATM in the city but to no avail. The city banks are also helpless due to no electricity and net connection. It looks like we are in suddenly living in the stone age.”
The city might have to suffer for some more days as official sources said that the power supply in Bhubaneswar will be restored in phases
