Mother Nature’s agony depicted in art expo

BHUBANESWAR: An art exhibition titled Against Global Warming was inaugurated in Orissa Modern Art Gallery here recently.

The exhibition, which was organised by Tribal and Folk Art Promotion and Development Foundation at the OMAG premises, saw seven artists depict the suffering of Mother Nature due to global warming a. The artworks would emphasise on the fact that such a scenario has happened due to human follies.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Minister of Tribal Affairs Jual Oram and SK Tamotia Director General and Vice chairman of Bharatiya Vidya Bhawan.

On the occasion, Dipali Saha, who is one of the seven artists, depicted the agony of Mother Nature through a painting. Secretary of the Foundation said that global warming is a serious problem in the contemporary world and as artists; we can’t ignore our surrounding atmosphere.  I have presented my art on the theme of Mother Earth and her ecological agonies. Such a theme would be depicted in paintings, drawings, graphics and videos.

We have attempted to showcase how patheitic are our attempts to save nature, said an artist. The artists involved in the expo have depicted a form of protest in their artworks, he added.

Catastrophic oil spills have been showcased in a graphic form where dead fishes and migratory birds lie in an abandoned beach. The paintings reflected a sorry state of affairs in our attempts at reviving the natural balance of our environment.

This apart, a seven minute video was also showcased where artists made Tagorian ideas, vision and images come to life. The group has conducted several expos in England, Berlin, Bangladesh and Bhutan among others. The exhibition is slated to continue till November 11.
