Motorcyclist killed in mishap; car crashes into shop

Jeypore/Kashinagar:  One person was killed and another sustained critical injuries in two separate accidents Monday.

In the first mishap, a man died in a head-on collision between a car and a bike at Thoradiput village on National Highway-326 under Jeypore Sadar police limits in the afternoon.

The deceased was identified as M Muralimohan Rao, 67, a resident of a village on the outskirts of Jeypore town. According to sources, Rao was heading towards his village riding his motorbike when he met with the accident.

On getting information, the local police reached the spot and seized the two vehicles and detained the car driver. The victim’s body has been handed over to his family, investigating officer Seema Pradhan said.

In the other accident, a shopkeeper suffered critical injuries after a speeding car rammed into his grocery shop at Khalada village under Kashinagar block in Gajapati district. The injured has been identified as Joseph Nag, 40, a resident of the village.

Sources said Nag was in his shop when the car (AP 30S 6909) crashed into his shop, destroying many items. The driver is said to have lost control over the vehicle. Nag was rushed to the district headquarters hospital at Paralakhemundi.
