Moviegoers’ happy snacking again at PVR INOX

The unduly high priced snacks have prevented the theatergoers in the Capital city to gorge on the delicious snacks and beverages in theatres while watching a film, significantly affecting the overall cinema experience

Bhubaneswar: The ever sky-high prices of food items in the PVR INOX has now come to an end over a tweet of a journalist who shared the exorbitant bill of a Pepsi and a popcorn (Rs 460 for 55gm of cheese popcorn and Rs 360 for 600ml of Pepsi). Study says it is because of the skyrocketing prices of the food menu that the majority of crowd has been shifting to local theatres where the snacks and beverages are cheaper.

PVR Cinemas has introduced lower prices for drinks and snacks following criticism on social media regarding inflated costs. Addressing the issue, PVR offered two promotions where it reduced the prices of food and beverages by 40 per cent making it a fair deal.

We have introduced two food combos starting from Rs 99 from Monday to Thursday between 9 am and 6 pm, while on weekends the offers will be ‘bottomless popcorn’ with ‘unlimited refills’ and ‘bottomless Pepsi’, said a PVR official.

“It is obvious that a cinema watched in a theatre has a whole different

experience and feel to it than watched on OTT platforms. The food prices don’t do justice for a middle class family; it doubles the prices of tickets for the cinema. That is one reason why the middle class prefers going to a local theatre or wait till the OTT release. But the new promotions offered by PVR are somehow a relief now and I am sure there will be queues now in front of food gates”, said Nitesh, an architecture student of a private college.

“There is not much difference in the ticket prices when compared with a local theatre. But paying a hefty amount to not even fill your stomach brings a major crowd to the local theatres where the students and people from every section of society can enjoy the food without burning a hole in their pockets”, said Roma, a homemaker.

“I feel these offers will create a balance and give a reason to the students to choose watching cinemas in PVR who miss out on PVR experience. We have unlimited refill for large popcorn and large coke. We have observed a good running of food and beverages after this offer were applied last week”, said Prakash, an official of PVR INOX, Symphony Mall.
