MS Dhoni retirement: Why MSD chose to retire from international cricket at ’19:29 August 15′

Indian great Mahendra Singh Dhoni Saturday bid adieu to international cricket in the most Dhoni-like way possible. Without any fanfare, thrills and attracting much attention, Dhoni did it in an elegant and dignified way just like his international sporting career with a cool post on Instagram account 15th August, which also happened to be India’s 74th Independence day.

“Thanks a lot for ur love and support throughout. From 1929 hrs consider me as Retired,” Dhoni wrote along with the video on Instagram. The video depicted Dhoni’s international journey from breaking into the national side, scripting records, playing memorable knocks, winning trophies and getting run out in his last match for India.

The Mystery behind ’19:29′ and an Independence Day retirement

However, one thing that caught everyone’s attention and also added to the intrigue factor was Dhoni’s stress on the timing ’19:29′ as he wrote “From 19:29 consider me as retired,” Dhoni stated. Notably, Dhoni’s retirement post on Instagram too came at 19:29.

Since, speculation has been rife on the possible connection between the timing and the legend’s retiremnent. Fans started searching and speculating the reason why MS Dhoni chose ’19:29′ on India’s Independence day as the occasion to declare his much-hyped retirement.

Dhoni’s jersey number is ‘7’ and Raina played for India wearing the jersey numbered ‘3’. If these two numbers are joined, then it becomes 73, the same number of years, the country completed its independence. Interestingly, even Suresh Raina responded to the tweet posting the emoji of the Indian flag.

Some fans said that Dhoni decided to retire at ’19:29′ hours as it was the exact same time when India lost the World Cup semi-final match to New Zealand in 2019, which was also happened to be his last international match.

While others pointed out that 1929 was an ‘angel number’ which signifies a message that you have finished a major phase or cycle in your life and stamped it with a closure.

Many cricket fans also correlated the ‘Great Depression 1929’ to MS Dhoni’s retirement at 19:29 Saturday.
