New Delhi: Former captain of the Indian cricket team MS Dhoni, has remained in Kashmir in spite of the security build up following the abolition of Article 370. While other sportspersons in the Valley have been asked to go away elsewhere, MS Dhoni has remained at Khrew in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir.
MS Dhoni who is an honorary lieutenant colonel in the Indian Army is fulfilling his commitment and will be serving them for a period of two months. It is for this reason he did not travel with the Indian team to the West Indies. If sources are to be believed Dhoni is likely to hoist the Tricolour on Independence Day in Leh in the newly-created union territory of Ladakh. However, the Army has not disclosed the exact location where the event will happen.
Dhoni has been with his battalion since July 30 and will continue to do so in spite of the beefed up security in the region said that same source. He will travel August 10 with his battalion to Leh.
“Dhoni is the brand ambassador of the Indian Army. He has been with his unit for some time now. He is regularly playing football with his unit members and his motivational talks have really been inspirational. He will remain with the unit till August 15,” said a senior Army official on condition of anonymity.
The former skipper took a two-month break from cricket and skipped the tour to West Indies to serve in the Indian Army. Following the loss to New Zealand in the semis of the recent World Cup 2019, Dhoni was expected to announce his retirement from the game, but has delayed the same due to his commitment to the Army.
