BHUBANESWAR: The three-day festivities of Mayurbhanj Utsav, organised by Mayurbhanj Cultural Association, Bhubaneswar, would be kick started at Utkal Bhawan here from Friday.
Information regarding the festival was given at a press meet here Wednesday. The cultural extravaganza aims at promoting and propagating the culture and heritage of Mayurbhanj district. The organisers have planned several activities to showcase how the culture has enriched that of the state.
Besides, the platform would be used to acknowledge artistic talent of the district. Gokul Chandra Das, secretary, Mayurbhanj Cultural Association, said, “The upcoming Utsav would popularise Mayurbhanj tourism and make it an appropriate destination for private investment. He also stressed on the need to develop and promote Chhau dance with all of its grandeur.
The event provides a platform to artistes from various places of the district to showcase their talent. World famous Chhau, Jhumuri dance and songs would be presented by multiple tribal artistes during the event. Besides, stone utensils and various products on Tassar would serve as the main attraction of the event.
Actor Uttam Mohanty said, “The biggest crowd puller of the event will be the famous Mudhi-Mansa, a delicious food item made up of puffed rice and mutton curry. Mayurbhanj Cultural Association promotes the crafts and artists of the entire state.” Actor Ajit Das was also present during the event. A special catalogue of the Ustav was released before the Press on the occasion.
