Digapahandi: A woman and several others Sunday came under police scanner after the skeletal remains of a person, missing since last one and half years, was recovered from a pond at Guhalpur village under this block in Ganjam district April 1.
A youth, Kalu Pradhan, a farmer and a casual labourer, had gone missing one and half years back. Police suspected it to be a murder over extra-marital relationship as Kalu used to stay at Salia Sahi slum in Bhubaneswar while working as a casual labourer. Police Wednesday questioned a few villagers.
The skeletons, tied in a sack, were recovered from a pond. On the basis of a medical report, police suo-motto registered a case of murder over a complaint lodged by sub-inspector Madhusmita Pradhan Wednesday.
Victim’s wife Sulata Pradhan had lodged a complaint then in the police station. Police after recovering the skeletal remains sent them for forensic examination and registered a case.
The forensic report indicated that the skeletal remains were of Kalu Pradhan as a rod was found in the right leg of the skeleton which had been installed in the victim’s leg after he underwent an operation. The victim’s age and height also matched with that of the skeleton.
The skeletal remains have been sent for DNA test to Bhubaneswar and the accused will be arrested after receiving the necessary evidence and medical reports, police IIC Basant Kumar Sethi said.
