BHUBANESWAR: Aamad, a musical conclave from dusk to dawn started at GKCM auditorium here Saturday. An all-volunteer effort to promote Indian Classical Music, it provides the only platform in the city for promotion of budding Indian classical musicians.
A quarterly musical conclave, ‘Aamad’ is a joint effort of Gurus and their students with the objective of providing a performing platform to teachers as well as learners and at the same time recreating interest in Indian Classical Music.
Besides giving scope to new artistes, the objective of the musical night is to enjoy night raagas. Vocal and instrumental performances are set to the time of night. Besides the local performers, the highlight of this edition are eminent Sitar maestro of Odisha and ‘A Grade’ artiste of ‘AIR’, Rabi Sankar Pradhan from Cuttack and Dhrupad maestro Sucheta Rakshit from Balasore.
Shankar said, “The conclave initiated by youngsters will take the mandate of popularising Hindustani Classical Music amongst the new generation and at the same time create a platform for Hindustani Classical Music lovers.”
Talented vocalist Sushri Laksmi Priya Nayak said, “Aamad is an amazing opportunity to perform and enjoy Ragas that are meant for the night and early morning hours.”
‘Aamad’ is an Urdu word and literally means ‘onset’ or ‘arrival’ in Hindustani Classical Music. It refers to a soothing sweet combination of musical notes and beats in a Bandish creating a breath-taking musical formation. It may be described as a superlative confluence of notes and rhythmic elements beaded to create a melodious advent.
