Anandapur: Concentration is vital for realising the dream of one’s life, says Ghasipura BDO Madhusmita Samantray. Her childhood dream to be a BDO actualised when she succeeded in the OAS examination in 2005 and began her career. “My aim is to help the helpless and poor people to join the mainstream,” she said.
Born to retired professor of OUAT Nityananda Samantray and social activist Soudamini Samantray, Madhusmita obtained a degree in homeopathy. Her maiden assignment as BDO was at Ghasirpura, which she joined May 11, 2011.
In a tête-à-tête, she discussed about her life, career and public life.
Q: How do you feel working in Ghasipura, one of the sensitive blocks in the state?
I am happy to have got my first posting in an important block like Ghasipura. I am always focused on how to serve and give justice to the people. I expect cooperation from all in discharging my duties.
Q: How do you deal with people coming to you with their problems and grievances?
I give a patient hearing to their problems and then talk to my colleagues so that their problems are redressed soon. As an administrative officer, my priority is to understand and sort out their problems.
Q: What is the main objective in your public service?
I will strive to make the helpless and poor girls educated and self-sufficient. In my life, I will bear the education cost and other expenses of at least five girl children. Besides, bringing the helpless and poor into the mainstream is also my aim.
Q What is your take on growing exploitation and torture of girl children?
Day by day, torture and exploitation of girl children are on the rise. I urge people, especially those intolerant of girl children, to refrain from doing so. Before doing such abominable acts, these people should think of their own children.
Q: How do you maintain your daily work schedule?
I get up at 6 o’clock and exercise for half an hour. Then I take tea with my family and read books before leaving for the office. In the afternoon, I return home and spend some quality time with my mother and father-in-laws. I go to bed at around 12 midnight.
