Mystery shrouds death of Plus II student in hostel

Student death

Badamba: In a new twist to the alleged suicide of a Plus II student at Bidharpur-based private college here, the student’s father Monday lodged a complaint at Maniabandh police outpost alleging that his son was murdered.

According to the complaint, Tapas Samal, a resident of Garilo in Dhenkanal district, got his son Suryakant admitted to the private college at Bidharpur this year. He was residing in the college hostel for two months. The college officials informed his family about the incident Sunday.

Hearing this, the family went to the college, and after assessing the situation lodged a complaint at the police outpost alleging murder.

Maniabandh and Badamba police reached the spot and got the postmortem conducted before handing over the body to the family.

Meanwhile, the college authorities said the student hanged himself from the ceiling fan in his room.

IIC Gyanaranjan Mishra said it was too early to come to a conclusion. “We have booked a case of murder on the basis of the complaint lodged by Suryakant’s father. Our investigations and the postmortem report will shed light on the cause of death,” he added.

A suicide note found in Suryakant’s room is being examined by the police to ascertain if it was written by the deceased.
