Bhubaneswar: Naba Kishore Das, who had recently quit the Congress and joined BJD, submitted his resignation Monday as Jharsuguda MLA to Pradip Kumar Amat, Speaker of the Odisha Assembly.
The letter states “The resignation is given voluntarily and the same may kindly be accepted in accordance with Rule- 168 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Odisha Legislative Assembly,”.
Das joined Biju Janata Dal formally January 25, after resigning from the primary membership of Congress. Das was the working president of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC). He was elected as Jharsuguda MLA consecutively for two times on a Congress ticket.
With this resignation, the total number of Congress members in the House came down to 12. Earlier, Koraput MLA Krushna Chandra Sagaria and Sundergarh legislator Jogesh Singh had resigned from the House.
Prior to that Bijepur MLA Subala Sahu, who was elected from Congress ticket, breathed his last in 2017. This vacancy was filled up through a by-election. BJD candidate and Subal’s widow Rita Sahu won the poll.
