Puri, June 17: The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has prepared the designs for `10 and 1,000 denomination Nabakalebara commemorative coins.
According to SJTA sources, the designs, which were approved by the chief temple administrator Suresh Mohapatra and Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingh Deb, would be sent to the Centre within a couple of days.
Sources said the ten-rupee denomination coin would measure 27 mm in diametre while the 1000 rupee coin would be of 44 mm dia.
The Union Culture Ministry had decided to float the commemorative coins following which a seven-member committee was formed.
The earlier design had the images of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra as they appear during Suna Besa ritual. This was objected by Sashikanta Das, Union Economic Affairs secretary. He had said the coins, if minted in this format, would create a different impression about the Trinity among the people. So the design was disapproved.
The Union culture ministry had then written to the SJTA seeking its suggestion.
According to the revised format, the ten rupee coin will have the image of Lord Jagannat only. Though it was discussed that The Trinity will find space in the 1000 rupee coin, later sources said that only Lord Jagannath’s image will be embossed on the coin.
