BHUBANESWAR: Nanha Mard, a standup special by Alokesh Sinha, was organised by Bhubaneswar Komedians at Recess, KIIT square here recently.
Comedians Ashit Ranjan Panigrahi and Sumeet Kakkar’s act kick started the show which was hosted by Akash Baghar. This is the second time that Alokesh Sinha was performing in the capital.
The opening act by Ashit Ranjan Panigrahi and Sumeet Kakkar was hilarious and had city folks in splits.
“The money collected by us from this event will be donated to the families of Pulwama martyrs. This is not the first instance that we are doing it. We have previously done charity shows to help underprivileged people and kerala victims,” said a member of Bhubaneswar Komedians.
Performer Alokesh Sinha said, “It feels great when people pay to watch your shows. This has become a reality due to my two years of hard work. I have invested a lot of time and effort in writing and testing every single joke and hitting every single open-mic event to test my material.”
“When you test your content, at times, people don’t even laugh. That’s the moment when you realise that you have to drop that joke and start from the scratch again. This is the journey every single comedian goes through. Finding the best joke for my audience is what I strive for.”
Performer Sumit Kakkar said, “I think my performance was good as the audience was not a regular for comedy shows and was still enjoying the act. Initially, it took a while for them to sink in but the enthusiasm and energy took them along.”
Born to a Bengali family and raised in Odisha, Alokesh Sinha has captured the imagination of city folks. He belongs to the first generation of comedians who have come together to establish a comedy scene in Bhubaneswar. Alokesh made fun of his parents, friends and how he was tricked by his ex-girlfriend.
Alokesh Sinha has opened for many established comedians like Nishant Tanwar, Rahul Subhramaniam and Pratyush Chaubey. Now, he is planning to organise a comedy tour to VSSUT, Burla March 9.
