Narrow escape for passengers as truck rams into bus

Balasore/Rourkela: Passengers had a narrow escape in two separate road mishaps in Balasore and Rourkela Saturday morning.

In the first incident, as many as 50 passengers escaped unhurt after a speeding truck rammed into a bus near Uttareswar bus stand in Soro late last night.

Reportedly, the bus (OD-015-1444) was on its way to Jaleswar. It had arrived from Bhubaneswar and passengers were alighting from the vehicle at the bus stop when a speeding truck (WB-41H-2296) rear-ended it.

While some of the passengers sustained minor injuries, the truck driver was thrashed by locals for reckless driving.

On intimation, cops reached the spot and took the driver into their custody.

Similarly in Rourkela, a major mishap was averted after a private bus en-route to Rourkela overturned on NH 143 at Darajinga near Lahunipada in Sundergarh district today.

While no casualty was reported in the mishap, 10 passengers, who sustained injuries in the mishap, were rushed to the Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) and Primary Health Center (PHC) at Lahunipada.

According to reports, the bus carrying passengers from Palahada to Rourkela turned turtle after the axle of the bus broke and the driver lost control over the vehicle.

After getting information, Lahunipada police reached the spot and began an investigation into the incident.
